“This isn’t The Matrix” – a line delivered by the main character about half-way through the film, just in case you weren’t sure what you were watching.
Well, we didn’t need reminding.
The film follows the changing fortunes of a man who happens upon a drug which allows him to use parts of his brain which can’t usually be accessed. His success in harnessing this ability brings him into contact with some very unsavoury characters.
It’s an interesting concept, and the scenes where the character is under the influence of the drug are beautifully and impressively shot.
I quite liked the way the story concluded, but was annoyed by the film’s constant voice-over, and a scene near the end just didn’t make sense, which spoiled it just a little.
But a worthwhile evening’s entertainment.
