Dallas Buyers Club

A film of great performances, but not as great a film as some would have you believe.

Matthew McConnaughey is excellent as the redneck hustler who discovers he is HIV positive, and turns his ‘entrepreneurial’ talents into a business supplying non-approved medication to those who have the money. Jared Leto shines in the supporting role as a transgender individual who helps McConnaughey’s character to build his drug business.

Outside of this, plot and characters seem a little too roughly drawn for a more meaningful film. The story is interesting, sad and uplifting at the same time, but really only scratches the surface of the issues at hand.

Also, shouldn’t there be an apostrophe in the title?
