Serpico (1973)
Rewatching for my The Complete Pacino list.
An excellent demonstration of how to show the passing of a chunk of time without interrupting the flow of the narrative – but of course, it’s Sidney Lumet.
Not your usual heroic cop film with the hero chasing and apprehending the criminals – this is a very different view of police life, and based on a biography of a real person with internal corruption as the theme. Not sure about the soundtrack – sounds like it was taken from a very different film. Some great headwear though.
Pacino’s character’s inner tension explodes now and again, but not in an over-the-top way. Anger, fear, frustration – perfectly generated.
